22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
View From A Pew
In today’s Gospel Jesus first confronts his disciples with an easy question but then puts them right on the spot with “But who do YOU say I am?” As usual it is out spoken Peter who declares “You are the Messiah.” Now Peter had had a mixed relationship with Jesus and is know for his headstrong , and impetuous nature, hardly the best qualities for a C.V. But he gave Jesus the answer he was looking for, that Peter recognises Jesus as the fulfilment of God’s plan. and it would appear that it is on this, and only this, basis that Jesus hands him the job to top all jobs. Well who would have thought it?
