In Jesus’ parable today the talent is a unit of money which a master entrusts to his servants each according to his perceived ability of the individual. It could be regarded as a test I think as he does specify what exactly they are to do with it. Be cautious or be pro-active? The man given the least it would appear is the most nervous about losing it but actually his master had expected each of them to USE the money, not just keep it safe it, and make it grow. The word ‘talent’ today is used to mean a special, natural, God-given gift. Every one of us we are assured has been given a talent by God, be it big or (in our opinion) small, and of every possible kind. As Jesus indicated, and like the man in the story, God does not want us to just sit on our talents because that is a waste of his gift, almost a rejection, but rather to USE the talents and make them grow into something useful to God and perhaps to mankind. Then HE will increase what we have been given. Have a look at YOUR talent, (yes you do have one) and think if you are using it to its best advantage. Is it Growing?
