Commemoration Service for HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

Commemoration Service for HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

This Saturday we are holding a Commemoration Service for HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Service will take place on Saturday 17th April, 6.30pm at S. Saviour, Ford Green Road, Smallthorne.

On the same day, Nine Tailors will be tolled at all 3 of our churches:
Holy Trinity, Hamil Road
S. Saviour, Ford Green Road
S. Werburgh, High Lane
between 2pm and 3pm.

The Nine Tailors: otherwise known as the Passing Bell.

Historically, when a Church bell began to toll, the first three chimes made you stop what you were doing and take notice. The second three chimes told you it could be either a woman or a man, but if there was a third set of three chimes it was definitely a man.

Then it was tolled once for every year of the deceased’s age, to indicate who died in the community.

So this coming Saturday afternoon, it will be tolled: 3, 3, 3, 99.

The chiming of 3, 3, 3 is the same as the Angelus (daily: 9am, 12noon, 6pm), and also at the raising of the Host at Mass on Sundays.
