28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
View from a Pew
Matthew’s gospel yet again, reads as angry, urgent and with a sense of climax, of time running out. The king is throwing a party for his son, who would not relish an invitation? Well many it seems although when would they get such a chance again to meet royalty. The king’s anger in part must be because he feels hurt for his son. The parables are getting more and more pointed, increasingly the closeness of the father and the son emphasised. The bottom line seems to be to seize the day , be alert, and to remember that by rejecting the father you are rejecting his son, and that to rejoice with the son is to rejoice with the father. Must say I do feel a bit sorry for the guest without appropriate wedding outfit. Poor man, he might just have been swept in with the crowd,
at least he should have been given a second chance don’t you think?
