TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
View from a Pew
In my opinion the reading from the book of Job is a most wonderful example of Blank Verse Poetry (who says Job is boring!) and leads beautifully into the Gospel today which gives us two revealing pointers into the nature of Jesus. First, he was exhausted and so in need of sleep that even the storm did not wake him. Just like us sometimes and having the same basic needs as we do. However, the passage, more importantly, also reveals Jesus’ deity because only God can make the wind and waves obey Him. Finally, however, it reveals the nature of mankind. The disciples, some very experienced in the ways of the sea and who had also witnessed Jesus’ miracles and heard his message, still had doubts. Just like many of us at times I am sure. A simple yet very telling narrative.
