Sunday 29th November 2020 – Advent 1

Welcome! We hope that very soon we will be able to welcome you in person to one of the three churches in the North Potteries Team. We understand that this second national lockdown, whilst shorter and easier in many ways than the first, is still a very difficult time for many. If during this period of confinement you need any assistance please get in touch with Fr Andrew or Fr Glen and they will do what they can to assist you. Likewise if you would simply like someone to talk to about anything at all they are available so please do get in touch and they will make time for you. If you are able to do so can we please encourage you to continue to put donations in your envelopes or to make donations to the churches online. Although we may not be together, the work of the Team continues and your support is vital.

Happy New Year!
Advent is a time to start preparing to meet God we are told a time of tense, watchful, diligent preparedness and, at this time, by some, as a way of looking at the world as being full of signs. Many must be wondering if all the disasters which have occurred in recent times are ‘signs’ of something momentous. Something prophesied. In verse 5 of Mark 13, Jesus warns his disciples to beware of those False News pundits and in verse 26 Jesus declares that only He is ‘The son of Mankind’ and insists that even HE cannot foretell the date of His return because that is known only by God the Father. The key words seem to be ‘Stay Awake’ and keep your wits about you, watch, wait and pray.
Were prayers ever more needed than now?

LIVE STREAMING – When possible Morning and Evening Prayer and the weekday masses will continue to be live streamed via facebook.com/theNPTM

MASS PRAYERS – One of the important functions of a deacon is to be aware of and to bring to the altar the needs, hopes, fears, and aspirations of God’s people, this is why it is traditional for a deacon to lead prayers of intercession at mass. You may have noticed that during the week Fr Glen is now leading us in prayer, if there are things you would like praying for please do be in touch with him. Likewise if there are needs or occasions for which you would like masses offered please get in touch with Fr Andrew.
Have you also noticed the addition of some extra prayers at the end of mass in the week? These are called the Leonine Prayers and for many years they were encouraged to help protect and grow the Church, we felt that in these uncertain times those prayers might again be needed!
