FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
View from a Pew
We all expect love and support and understanding from those that are close to us, and so naturally Jesus must have felt hurt and perhaps disappointed when he returned home and found only rejection from family, old friends and neighbours. You can just hear them, can’t you? “Too big for his sandals if you ask me.” or “Who does HE think he is? Son of a carpenter that’s who.” Perhaps that is why his power was diminished there, perhaps his confidence was knocked, and we all know that feeling don’t we. But I feel that it is little snapshots like this that give us such an intimate insight in the life of Jesus and add so much to the authenticity of what we read about his life. We don’t just get the good stuff we get his experiences warts and all!
