THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

View From A Pew

Two complicated yet related themes today, the first to do with proclamation and second the demands that this makes. Paul certainly saw his ministry not just as a paid ‘job’ but rather simply something he has to do, his purpose to be at God’s disposal. His reward the joy of sharing. This sense of compulsion to go out and preach is also seen today in Jesus’ ministry, to go out – despite those urging Him to stay in one place – and spread His message. That is HIS purpose, as it could be argued is the purpose of all Christians, to share our faith with others and not to put God in a box.

Lent, Holy Week, and Easter

As you will doubtless appreciate this coming Lent will again be different to normal. We hope that a Lent Group will still be possible in some form (almost certainly online but perhaps using a means other than zoom for those reluctant to use that platform). We will consider the best way to approach other devotions, such as the Stations of the Cross and let you know shortly.

Curious Children

We are thinking of beginning a weekly zoom call for some of our children to explore the faith and exercise their curiosity, initially we would suggest an age range of 8-11 and would ask that a parent be present but off camera. It is hoped that this may work a bit like Sunday School but will be focused on the children’s questions and areas of interest as well. If parents who think this might be valuable can get in touch with Fr Andrew to suggest suitable times and dates he would be most grateful.
