If you read a little way before (or after) the actual Gospel reading indicated it is sometimes quite informative. For example, 1 Samuel 3:1 tells us that “Messages from the Lord were rare in those days” isn’t that a strange and quirky bit of information? But Eli, despite this being a rare event, seems strangely unperturbed indeed almost annoyed at being woke up! And not once but three times! But he instructs his ward Samuel to “Listen.” However, when John sees Jesus he immediately recognises Him as the one they had been waiting for and shares this Belief. Is the Gospel message today then to:
- Respond
- Listen
- Believe
