EASTER SUNDAY

There is a largely ignored group of people in the Good Friday story who stuck by Jesus to the very end. Unlike many of His male disciples, so afraid that they ran away and locked the doors, it was the women of Jesus’ entourage who stood at the foot of the cross. Perhaps their very gender rendered them invisible. But they had made preparation by purchasing in advance spices for a royal anointing and embalming. Calm, organised and faithful though sorrowing. None of them would have been strong enough to roll away the stone but nevertheless that did not stop them, they had a job to do. As it turned out they were not needed in that capacity, no, their job turned out to be a different, even more important one. It was they who were the first to run on and tell the Good News of the resurrection to the whole world. As it is ours today.

So altogether “He is risen! Risen indeed! ALLELUIA!!”
